History and evolution of Google’s logo
It may seem that Google’s present iconic log has been there from time immemorial. However, the truth is something different. Since the very inception of Google as a company, it has seen several logos, each reflecting the sentiments and characteristic features of that time.
Google saw its inception in 1997, when the fledgling company started from the Stanford University. This is the logo they came up with, but why they did choose this particular one, no one knows.
In 1998, the company changed its logo, which resembles closer to its present image. The design was modern, innovative and stylish. It also sported the first, although very subtle, 3D look.
In 1999, one popular concept logo was this one. They still kept its colorful from, the only change change in the form of 3D effects, Shadow effects and an exclamation mark at the end. At this time, Google was trying to outdo Yahoo, which also had a colorful logo and an exclamation mark.
In 2010, the logo design was seemingly more sophisticated and professional. The font used was Catull. The other difference was that the Google logo now had a TM sign at the end.
Between 2010 and 2013, the logo’s bold look was highly reduced. However, once could still discern the subtle 3D effect and shadows.
Google logo’s latest avatar is deliberately made flat, along with softer angles. According to the designers, it makes the logo easier to read.
